Writer's Block

N
o this not a block of a street in your local neighborhood, although I'm sure there are plenty of us creative minds who would love to see a street by the name of Writers Block. I know I for one would be trying to find a home on that block, if there were one in my neighborhood.

Ok show of hands, who of you creativity geniuses out there know what I'm talking about when I say the term 'Writer's Block'? Oh, I'm sure that even if you are not of a creative mind you know what Writer's Block means, right?

Writer's block is were someone, who is working on a creative project whether it is for personal or business reasons, just can't think creatively for a length of time. Now this time can range from minutes to hours, days to months or years. And the nice thing about Writer's Block is that it doesn't discriminate, it doesn't care if you are a writer, musician, sculptor, painter, or any other kind of creative person. This aspect of writer's block is kind of cool personally.

I don't know about the rest of you but my writer's block seems to hit when I'm working on the most interesting part of that great American novel that I'm writing. When that happens I do one of two things, most of the time; One I step away from the computer for awhile and do something else about the house that either needs to be done or that I've been meaning to do anyway. Two I will pull up a new word document and try to work on something different like a 'Random Thought', a poem or anything else but the novel. You see I've found by not concentrating on the item that I'm blocked on the ideas for it come quicker sometimes.

With the key word being sometimes, I tend to end up with either a lot of Random Thoughts or most of my household chores caught up. This is when I go into something like Photoshop Elements and play with some of the different things in there graphic wise or work on updating my website. The key for me is to try and remain creative in some way and the ideas will eventually come.

So for all of you struggling artists out there, don't give up and keep thinking creatively and you will eventually make your goal what ever it may be.
