For those of you who have not visited my biography page yet, I will tell you now, yes I am white. Yes I was raised in a white suburb of Toledo, and the school I went to was 99.9% white. But all this does not mean that I am not opened minded or racist by any means. As a matter of fact my family raised me to accept everyone no matter what. That old saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover" was drilled into my head from birth. They raised me to have an open mind about all things. As I grew up I took a lot of those lessons to heart and found out that to be truly creative one has to be very open minded about everything around them.
Now to me when one is open minded there is no room for racism or hatred in their heart and mind. But what is surprising me lately is that some of the most creative people in the world today are projecting racism. This is just a foreign concept to me, I am having trouble wrapping my mind around the thought.
Yes wrapping the mind around a thought like this is very painful, so much so that I just want to go out there and shout, (to everyone who is hateful of people because of their color, religious preferences, or gender/sexual orientation) "Grow up and get over it! We were all put on this planet for a reason so why can't we all get along, live in peace and equality."
But I guess that would be to much to ask for now wouldn't it -- and of course it has proven very dangerous to many people who have asked that in not so many words. I know I shouldn't, but when I come across those hateful, ignorant people, I just ignore them. I simply choose not to justify or dignify their idiocy at all. Working in the retail world it's very hard to do. But, thankfully, I work at a place that respects my thoughts and feelings and with several coworkers who are willing to take over helping objectionable customers before I rip them up one side and down the other -- risking the loss of their business.
Why am I writing this and posting it on my site then you may ask. Well, I'm tried of silently yelling and want my opinions to be heard now. We as a society need to grow up and leap into the 21st century, after all President Obama has brought the White House into the 21st century, and we will not be able to do that with the people out there who are projecting all this hatred. A quote from one of the Star Wars movies comes to mind: "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering." This was said by Yoda in "The Phantom Menace" and is so true.
Maybe if the people who are raciest, could learn about others instead of being afraid maybe, just maybe, the suffering that we as a society are experiencing now would stop. Is this possible or is it just a dream of an open minded creative person? I sure hope not, because without dreams this would be a very sad place indeed.
Keep thinking creatively and open your mind to all the possibilities in this world.
