Yes, I'm an American. Baseball, apple pie, the American flag and Chevy cars are all part of my American heritage. Just like the Irish jig, Irish Wiskey, German Beer, and many other things are part of my heritage, because that is were my grandparents, several generations back, came from. I embrace all of my heritage and love to learn about the history of the countries that my family came from.
As part of learning my heritage, I have learned the languages that my relatives pretty much spoke. In high school I took French, in college I took German and now I am teaching myself Irish. Yes, before you even ask, the Irish speak English now, but they use to speak Gaeilge. Actually from what I have learned so far, they have been teaching it in the schools in Ireland for close to 15 plus years now. They also are using some of the Gaeilge in the government.
Anyway as you can see I'm very proud to be an American, with Irish, German, French, Scottish, and I'm sure other ethnic backgrounds. My question to you is are you proud to be an American with whatever your ethnic backgrounds are or are you one those people that say they are only an American and nothing else?
Personally the only ones who have a right to say that they are truly Americans are the ones that were here before the Europeans or white-man landed on these shores. Yes, I am speaking of the Native Americans, they are the only ones who are truly 100 percent American in their heritage.
I myself have 100 percent heart of an American and heritage wise I am 30 percent (or MUCH more) Irish, 30 percent German, 20 percent is heritage I'm not sure of with the remaining 20 percent of my heritage being the American I was born and raised to be. How about you?
How many of you have ever given a thought to where your relatives came from, no matter how many years ago?
Learn where you come from heritage wise, your traditions come from somewhere don't they? Listen to your family history it is very important and filled with information as to what your heritage maybe.
