Health Care Reform and the Debate rages on

O
k, I know you have seen a lot of opinions both positive and negative regarding this subject. Well if you must know I am for Health care reform, and if you don't like my opinion and don't want to listen to (sort of speak) my reasoning for it, then simply don't read on. If you are open minded or like to debate the matter read on and then feel free to contact me, I may even post the comments both views up with this random thought.

I am for this reform yes, call me a socialist if you want, but as one of the many Americans with a pre-existing condition I would prefer social health care over what we currently have in the USA. Sure capitalism is what built this country and that is what they are doing in a sense of the word, they are giving the current health care insurance providers a little competition along with cutting out the B.S. that some of have to go through just to get health insurance. All I am asking some of you to do is to LISTEN to the facts about the reform before jumping up and down screaming that they are turning this country into a communist or socialist country as we are still in a democracy.

Yes I have a pre-existing condition I am an Asthmatic and have been all my life. When I was younger I was under my parents health insurance policy that Dad had through work and I took it for granted, until I started to grow up and learn that some people who were worse then me did not have insurance because of health reasons. I had a Great-Aunt who had cancer and was lucky to get coverage, as I learned some health insurance company's would discontinue care for cancer patients because of their rising health care cost. Yet others like me when we can do have to get insurance on our own, outside of what an employer offers, can't afford the coverage, or have to wait a year or more for the coverage to kick in due to a pre-existing condition. Yet a Healthy person can get the same coverage for less money and be able to use it within 30 days of signing up for it. In the meantime those of us who take medication are paying full price for both prescriptions and doctor's visits. Tell me how fair is that?

To help put cost in perspective for you, about 5 years ago I was working through temporary services just to make ends meet, they offered basic insurance which helped with the doctors bills, but not the prescriptions. I still could only afford to go to see my doctors maybe once a year if I could afford, as I still had to find a way to pay for my medication, I was only taking 3 different medicines at the time, and was paying over $200 a month for them. On a temps salary that was at least 2 weekly checks which means all the bills, food and rent (which was close to $600 a month) had to come out of the other checks. Now I was lucky as my husband was working for most this time, and we have family in the area willing to help cut down our costs a little. I say lucky because there are people out there who aren't so lucky and they end up on the streets looking for work. You know the ones you tell to get a job, well they can't because they most likely lost their home, because they couldn't pay for it, because they had to pay for health care. Now guess what they can't pay for either.

I like the reform because it's making sure that every American has health care coverage regardless of what is wrong them health wise. Again I realize I'm one of the people who is a little lucky because I can get coverage, there are others out there that can't get it at all, even through their place of employment because their health is worse then mine. I'm sure you work with or even know someone who can't get coverage and just don't know it because we tend not let on that we are not as healthy and can't afford the coverage, we just tend to plug away and take one day at time looking for relief while we go.

Please think about this and read the details of what the Health care reform entails, before screaming that our government is turning socialist or communist, or even threatening you government representative with physical harm.

Just open your mind a little bit. As always I welcome comments, criticism, etc.
